I finally got an ATS guy that is more than a telephone operator.
He told me that Alltel has a roaming agreement with Sprint for coverage
in those areas not covered by Alltel towers. (I knew that.)
The problem is that Sprint has some bug in their software that they can
not find. Their physical assets are more than sufficient to handle the
high volume of traffic that happens during late afternoon and early
evening, but the software bug is causing the problem.
Everyone is working on the bug and they think they might be close, but
as we all know, when working with software it is never over. It is
always one more thing.
But at any rate, Alltel is working with Sprint and they are very well
aware that they are causing huge problems for their customers.
He pointed out that Alltel is well aware that they have business users
who most have laptops that can be used on the road and college students
and other people who need to research and communicate with each other.
So I am going to be cool and let it work out. I am completely happy
with Alltel cell phone service, so I have to assume that they will bring
this service up to the same level.
