When calling a mobile number, if I hear the ringing tone for a few rings
before the recipient's voicemail cuts in, (as opposed to the voicemail
cutting in immediately), does this prove that the mobile was in fact
switched on and ringing at the time of my attempted call?
i.e. am I right in assuming that if the mobile was switched off, the
voicemail facility (if available) would cut in immediately?
The background to my enquiry is that I haven't received replies to
messages sent to an old friend's 'phone, and I wonder if they have got
a new 'phone & new number.
Hoping someone may be able to tell me whether my logic in my opening
sentence is correct (or that you can suggest another simple tip for
knowing if a mobile is still active).
NB: Unfortunately my 'phone & network combination doesn't offer text
receipts, - only the basic "Message sent" confirmation.
Many thanks!
