Using 74S124 with crystal???

by "Norm Dresner" <ndrez@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 15, 2003 at 05:52 PM

The 74S124 Dual VCO is still manufactured by TI. I used it in the late
'70s
and early '80s to create high-speed PLLs and I need a Q&D crystal
oscillator
for a computer project but I don't have a lot of room for discrete
components. I have a clear recollection of having experimented with using
half of the 74S124 with a crystal as a reference oscillator but two
decades
later I can't find any records of having either succeeded or failed. Does
anyone have any recent knowledge of whether or not I can use a crystal in
place of the external capacitor with one of these?

    TIA
        Norm
