Oops, broken analogy, sorry.

I was trying to capture the misordering of the positive and negative
halves relative to each other, but with the exception of that break
2's complement still has "up as up" with no inversion, wheras this
scheme results in both misordering of the positive and negative halves
and inversion of the negative half.
