What do you mean by test sound?
Assuming that your cables are all plugged in correctly, is your onboard 
sound selected as primary sound source in the sound settings of your OS 
(some Windows, I assume)? Maybe the old mainboard's sound chip is still 
selected there...

If you open volume control (the little speaker icon in the taskbar 
beside your clock) and you open options->settings is your onboard sound 
driver shown? Are there other drivers shown in the drop down menu?

As you can see, more info needed.
