Re: Radioreference.com forums comments

The RR forum is not immune from that which afflicts every internet forum
whether it deals with scanners, cross-stitching, model railroading, or
whatever. The "sandbox" mentality and existance of "forum bullies" and
other typical forum personalities is something you either have to cope
with or walk away from.

That being said, I agree with the poster that RR is possibly the most
extreme example of a dysfunctional forum there is. Most forums teeter
on the brink - but sanity always prevails at the end of the day. On RR,
the know-it-all "forum bullies" are never challenged or called on their
bullsh*t. It is almost comical watching the regular members rally
around an Admin when said Admin is peddling B.S. and some poor noob is
trying to introduce some sense to the discussion. They will defend an
Admin even if they have no clue what the topic is or who is right or
wrong. This habit of people ingratiating themselves to the Admins on
internet forums would never work in a real face-to-face social
situation, but it's the M.O. on RR's forums. If you don't believe it,
try to correct an Admin just once and watch all the boot lickers come
out of the woodwork, people who don't even know who is right or wrong
but want to score points. The toll for this behavior is that vital
information about whatever is being discussed is suppressed and
potential contributors just walk away. Some even bother to state same,
which of course draws the usual, "hey Mike, there's goes another one,
hope the door doesn't hit him on the ass too hard, har har".
Whatever...

Your best bet to counter the RR forum nonsense is to refer to my first
paragraph - accept that this is how things work there and make the most
of the site. It does have lots to offer, with the database being the
obvious best example. Mentally "filter out" the trollish Admins and
their fanboys and get what you can out of RR - because there is a lot
to gain by being a member there.

"Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change..."
