everyone,
I was wondering if you could give me some job search advice.
I live in the UK and wanted to identify company’s that design products
that use a large amount of power electronics in them.
I would like to narrow my search to northern England and Scotland.
My experience is switch mode power supply design, but I am considering
all areas of power electronics in my job search activities.
Has anyone got advice on how to search for company product type /
location?
I would like to work for a power supply design company, but I know
there are a dwindling amount of them in the north of England.
Thanks
Reggie.
At risk of stating the obvious:
There are countless employment agencies that advertise jobs on the WWW and
are only too keen to accept your CV and then introduce you to requirements
of companies on their books. Putting some appropriate search criteria
into
Google (sites from UK option) will provide many leads. Some also
advertise
in newspapers like the Guardian (check which day of the week they major on
technology as opposed to other fields of work).
However, these agencies are chasing the percentage of first-year's salary
that they claim from the employer when they provide the successful
candidate, and the danger is that they will pay insufficient attention to
what you specify and try to send you along for interview for jobs that
barely meet your requirements. So you will need to be selective and
possibly send your CV out to a number of them 'in parallel'.
Alternatively, you could try to target manufacturing companies directly
and
begin by putting an appropriate combination of words into Google. This
approach will probably require a lot more study on your part, but the
benefit if you do find what you want is that you won't be sup****ting the
agencies!
Good luck,
Chris
