So, you want to make a staircase ramp?

It's pretty simple: use a low-duty-cycle pulse generator
into an integrator. For low frequency, that'd be a '555
feeding an op amp through a resistor to (-), with a
feedback capacitor to (-), and some provision to reset the
capacitor to zero to start another staircase.

At high frequency, take a square wave generator with
nearer 50% duty cycle... feed through C1 into a rectifier
(two diodes, one to GND, other to ramp-output), a hold
capacitor, C2, and some suitable output buffer amplifier.
