APPLICATION OF 60 HZ POWER FOR 50 HZ LOAD
We have own power generation thru two gas turbines (26.3 MW ISO rating
each) at a large process plant in Pakistan. The voltage level and
frequency of the generated power is 13.8 KV & 60 Hz respectively.
In addition to the production units we do have an office *** emergency
accommodation at our plant-site. This accommodation being at a distance
from the power generating facility, is presently using diesel
generators rated at 400 Volts, 50 Hz, to cater for their electrical
power requirements.
We have planned to utilize the generating power from Plant for the said
accommodation, by stepping down generating voltage from 13.8 KV to
utilization voltage of 400 V using a power transformer (1 MVA, 13.8 KV
/ 400 V AC, 60 Hz), frequency being the same at 60 Hz.
Details of electrical loads are as under:
Approximate Load: 500 KW
Type of Loads (3-Phase at 400 Volts, 50 Hz, & 1-Phase at 220 Volts, 50
Hz):
=B7 Incandescent / fluorescent / mercury lights
=B7 Refrigeration and air-conditioning appliances, including two
package type air-conditioning units operating at 3-Phase, 400 Volts.
=B7 Home appliances, including audio-visual equipment, personal
computers, wa****ng machines, ceiling fans etc.
=B7 Low voltage induction motors for pumps
Therefore, you are requested to kindly offer your valuable technical
comments / suggestions regarding operation of the existing equipment on
60 Hz power supply w.r.t the following:
1=2E Performance
2=2E Service life
3=2E Output Torque
4=2E Speed
5=2E Current
6=2E Temperature rise
7=2E Insulation
8=2E And others (if any)
In addition to the above please guide us regarding setting the primary
voltage level of the transformer.
Moreover, please note that the equipment installed at our site is
around 9 years old.
Your kind expert opinion would be highly appreciated.
