Dear Colleagues,
The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Engineering
Professional Development will offer two courses in power system
protection and communication:
Modern Power System Protection: Applications and Performance
Analysis, June 4-8, 2007
Communications for Power System Protection and Automation, June 11-14,
2007
Both courses will be presented in the UW's Pyle Center conference
facility
in Madison, Wisconsin.
Course information and on-line enrollment are available at:

Modern Power System Protection: Applications and Performance Analysis
will be valuable to practicing electric utility engineers who are
involved in applying, simulating, and testing protective relaying
devices. By attending you will learn about:
* Electromechanical vs. computer relaying principles
* Non-pilot line and pilot line protection
* Distribution system protection
* Transmission and distribution station design
* Adaptive protection
* Interpreting field oscillographs of transient events
Communications for Power System Protection and Automation will
benefit practicing electric utility engineers who are involved in
communications between computers and the intelligent devices
connected to them. By attending, you will learn about:
* Principles of analog communication techniques and how to compare
the performance of various systems
* Fundamentals of digital communciations and pulse coded modulation
(PCM) systems
* Special communication requirements of protective relaying
* Data networks and communication protocol standards: IEC 81650
* Electronic security of remotely accessible control and protection
equipment
* The integration of communications, control, and protection
Please let interested colleagues know about these courses. Thank you.
